Ski touring in Bucegi Mts. – Southern Carpathians

Bucegi. ski touring

Our mountains are full covered with snow and the winter season started already.

Last days with had a 2 days ski tour in Bucegi Mountains, in the backyard of our office from Zarnesti – Brasov.

The weather was far from perfect, but the snow was great!

First day we did the first section of Bucegi Haute Route (3 days tour), which means +1.200m up to almost 2.000m alt.

According to the weather conditions (wind and snowfall) following day we stayed low, skiing at the forest level (around 1.500m alt.) on the north side of Bucegi Mts. But the fun was great!

Brasov Big Six in Winter

The Big Six in winter season is our special prize for peak baggers.

It is a unique circuit program created by us, meaning to reach the surrounding BIG SIX highest and most important peaks nearby Brasov.

In winter season, almost all peaks can be reached by skis or snowshoes in one long day, starting early morning from Brasov, if you are fit enough and know the safest/ shortest/fastest route.

The BIG SIX are:

  1. Tampa Peak (960m alt. D+ 420m), Postavaru Mts.;
  2. Magura Codlei (1.292m, D+ 665m), Persani Mts.;
  3. Postăvaru Peak (1.799m alt., D+ 780m ), Postavaru Mts.
  4. Piatra Mare Peak (1.844m alt. D+ 1.200m), Piatra Mare Mts.
  5. Piscul Baciului/La Om Peak (2.239m alt., D+ 1.039m), Piatra Craiului Mts.
  6. Omu Peak (2.505m alt., D+ 1.800m), Bucegi Mts.

All peaks can be collected in six different days, some of them easier (including cable car), others harder, according to the chosen route.

The last two peaks from Bucegi and Piatra Craiului are the hardest and avalanche prone and must be reached only in good weather conditions.

Please feel free to contact us regarding this superb peaks collection.

Ski touring in Bucegi Mts.

ski touring. Bucegi. winter

Bucegi Mts. are situated very close to Bucharest (1.5 – 2 hours) on the way to Brasov.

Sinaia ski resort with Peles Castle are on the south east side of these mountains, Prahova valley being the most important road access in the area.

The highest peak – Omu (2.504m alt.) is one of the 13th peaks above 2.500m altitude from Romanian Carpathians, a target in summer and winter for those who want to collect them all!

Last days we skinned up on the west side of Bucegi Mts. very close to Omu peak (+ 1.280m) for a long and lovely ski descent back in the valley toward Bran village (Dracula Castle).

We did not actually reach the highest peak because we did not wanted to. The last section was pure ice, not very funny for ski. We found better snow lower in the valley, sheltered by the wind and not higher up!

A great ski tour with some great persons!
